Sułkowski Castle
Sułkowski Castle in Bielsko-Biała is situated on the slope of City Hill. At the end of 13th century there was a wooden castle which protected the trade route from Cracow to Cieszyn. This primordial castle together with a settlement created nearby at the beginning of 14th century was surrounded by a stony defensive wall. At the same time there was also built the castle tower as a lower city gate. First stone castle buildings were put up after 1358. Starting from the close of the 16th century, its defensive role was declining and the Castle gradually transformed into a nobleman’s mansion. Before the end of 17th century it was recognised as one of more important strongholds in this part of Silesia. The present appearance of the castle dates back to the last, thorough reconstruction undertaken in the second half of the 19th century (1855-1864), which entirely wiped out its previous characteristics of style.
Cathedral of St. Nicolas
St. Nicolas cathedral was originally founded between 1443 and 1447, probably at the place of a former wooden chapel. Between 1559-1630 it was changed to a Lutheran church. Later it was given back to Catholics by force. Primordial gothic structure, repeatedly damaged by fires, was completely rebuilt at the beginning of the 20th century (1908-1910) according to a design by Viennese architect Leopold Bauer. This time an Italian style tower was built. The tower rises 61 meters above the city and is a landmark for the surrounding area. In 1992 the church became the cathedral of the newly created dioceses of Bielsko and Żywiec. In the severe interior you can see: the triptych altar with the image of St. Nicolas and glass-stained windows from 1912.

Built in 1897 in neo-Renaissance style was the residence of Komunalna Kasa Oszczędnościowa (Municipal Savings Bank) as well as the authorities of Biała city. It characterises by a richly decorated spire with a helmet and pseudo-towers on sides.Polish Theatre
The theatre was built in 1890 according to a design by Viennese architect Emil von Forster. The design of the building was patterned on theatres in Vienna and Budapest. Its first name was Teatr Miejski (City Theatre) and was built from the citizens’ money. The facade of the building is decorated with the motive of triumphal arch with Apollo, Melpomene and Talla. The first performance ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’ was on 30th October 1890. Inside the theatre, where the main colour is red, there is a curtain from 1890 showing the nymphs’ dance. In 2000 there was made one part of the renovation which is supposed to restore the old appearance of the theatre. They replaced all chairs on the stalls and the position of chairs on the balcony was changed (on the 1st balcony the slant of the floor was increased and new places for the audience were built). Some polychrome decorations with a plant motive covered in the past with paint were uncovered. The ceiling is decorated with stylish chandelier. The floors and walls in the lobby were covered with red-maroon carpet which muffles the footsteps. For the internal decoration there were used materials which ideally restore the nature of the time when the theatre was built: wall-paper in the colour of heather with plant motives on the balconies, brassy banisters and Art Nouveau lamps. Electrical and acoustic installations were changed for stylised lightning and ventilation.
